In the beginning , in 1837 Hermés was a saddle and harness maker. The art of working leather harnesses and equestrian inspiration have this naturally paved the way for the creation of the other trades. The same goes for watchmaking. A 1912 photograph bears witness to this, with the granddaughter of the founder, wearing a pocket watch on her wrist with the saddle-stitched strap – the watch was called a porte–oignon. In 1928 Hermés launched Ermeto, the company’s first watchmaking collection with Swiss manufacture, Movado. Over the subsequent 50 years, the house produced models in collaboration with: Vacheron Constatin, JaegerLeCoultre, Lip, Universal Genva, Audermas Piquet, Tavannes, Angelus, Cyma, Baume&Mercier and many others.
In1978 Hermés opens its subsidiary in Bienne/Switzerland that is dedicated to the production and marketing of Hermés watches. The following models have been created since then: Kelly, Arceau, Clipper, Cape Code, Heure and Dressage.
In 2102 Hermés introduces its first Manufacture movements: H1837 & H1912,
respectively in Dressage and Arceau.
